AKT Outpost
AKT Outpost is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, and serves the North East of England. Originally The Outpost Housing Project; this organisation was established in 1995 in response to incidents of homophobia and rejection of young people who were lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) and who subsequently found themselves living in intolerable circumstances or made homeless. Outpost helps young people (aged 16-25) who have found themselves in this vulnerable situation, and who are often at risk of physical, emotional and sexual abuse and financial exploitation. Generic accommodation services are seldom equipped to support the additional needs of LGBT youth homeless, and often the vulnerability of this group of young people can be overlooked.
